Gay Comedies
Wether heading out with a date, a mate, your mum or a cinema packed with jovial
queers, as always, we offer you the best belly-laughs of the queer cinema year.
Gay Dramas
Be moved this Mardi Gras with this powerful selection of International cinema dramas.
From icy Newfoundland to the tropical Bahamas, Latin America to the Latino districts of
California, from the cold congestion of China to the isolation of rural Denmark, we find gay
men living and loving in myriad predicaments.
Lesbian Comedies
Wether heading out with a date, a mate, your mum or a cinema packed with jovial
queers, as always, we bring you the best belly-laughs of the queer cinema year.
Lesbian Dramas
Be moved this Mardi Gras with this sexy selection of International cinema dramas.
From the sweeping melodrama of 19th Century Sicily to the street workers of Paris
in the 60s, Lesbians undercover in the Marines to Lesbians on the run, and some
decidedly raunchy romances, the women have served up a sizzling cinematic
selection this year.
Special Events
The 2011 Mardi Gras Film Festival opens with Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor playing
lovers in the long awaited Sydney premiere of I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS, closes
with the Australian premiere of Gregg Araki's Kaboom, features outstanding Australian
talent in MY QUEER CAREER, and celebrates or own family home movies in QUEER
PET PROJECT. Plus, for the first time, we’re hosting a cushion and throws cinema
downstairs at the Oxford Hotel.
Youth Stories
We're proud to present an incredible collection of stories by and about LGBTI youth
this season and pleased to advise that patrons 15 years or older may attend these
sessions.
Family Stories
You can choose your friends, choose your lovers but you can't choose your relatives.
The black-sheep stories of queers and their families offer endless inspiration, emotion
and hilarity in our bent family album.
Histories of LGBT Artists
The 2011 Mardi Gras Film Festival presents an inspirational and insightful collection of
films that explore the history and stories of some exceptional queer artists. From the
diaries of the first modern Lesbian, Anne Lister, to the journals of Christopher Isherwood,
the revolutionary and obscene films of Bruce LaBruce to the obscenity trial of the poem
HOWL, and the very queer life of William S Burroughs.
