Outing Gay Hate image
Taking us beyond the apparent acceptance of the Mardi Gras parade, this compelling film breaks the code of silence surrounding gay hate crime in Australia. It reveals how gay hate murder, violence and vilification have become a constant in our lives as lesbians and gay men - with profound impact. Along with survivors of brutal bashings, we hear from prominent figures such as High Court Judge Justice Michael Kirby, Federal Human Rights Commissioner Chris Sidoti and gay hate murder expert Dr Stephen Tomsen. This documentary demands those in power finally acknowledge the violence - an essential first step towards ending horrific attacks on GLBT people nationwide.

Followed by a forum hosted by the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby on the importance of reporting gay hate crimes. Speakers include George Willison, director of Outing Gay Hate; Stevie Clayton, Deputy Director of ACON; Anthony Schembri, Director of Social Work at St George Hospital; and Sue Thompson, NSW Police Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officer.
