CLOSING NIGHT

CONFIRMED Director
Nienke Eijsink will be in attendance closing night for a Q&A session with Liz Burch (The Flying Doctors).

presented in association with

Nienke Eijsink | Netherlands | 2009 | 52 min
Dutch + English - with subtitles

Dutch filmmaker Nienke Eijsink is on a quest to find her childhood idol and first love: Doctor Chris Randall from The Flying Doctors. In the early 90s, Nienke's teenage life revolved around the Australian TV series and her admiration for Doctor Chris, played by actress Liz Burch, who must prove herself as a female doctor in the male-dominated world of the Australian outback. Indeed, it was through her fantasies about Doctor Chris, that Nienke discovered her lesbian leanings.  Now a grown up filmmaker, she has found her mission: to pluck Liz Burch from obscurity and give her the starring role in her debut film! Nienke flies to Australia and after and exhaustive search arrives at Liz Burch's door. How will the actress react? Will she be anything like Dr Chris? And can Nienke persuade her to take part in her film?

FAN is an hysterical and disarmingly honest coming of age story about how our idols unknowingly change our lives and what happens when our fantasies collide with reality. As fascinating as it is fun, as moving as it is mad, and as candid as it is courageous, FAN completes our QueerDoc in spectacularly apt form - proof that we can make our Truth so much Queerer than our Fiction.
