Tomer Heymann | Germany + Israel | 2010 | 56 min
Hebrew + German + English - with subtitles

Filmmaker Tomer Heymann travels to Berlin to present his film "Paper Dolls" (Mardi Gras Film Festival 2007) at the Berlinale. There he meets Andreas, a German Dancer, and within 48 hours, a love-at-first-sight relationship unfolds.
The intensity of the relationship is swiftly raised, by the realisation of each other's heritage. Tomer's Jewish grandfather escaped Germany mid-Second World War, whilst Andreas believes his family had ties to the Nazi Party. When Andreas decides to move to Tel-Aviv to live with his lover, he must also build a relationship with Tomer's charismatic but headstrong mother, who is considerably more concerned with the reality of this new relationship.
Aside from the poetic circumstances surrounding the couple, what makes this documentary so remarkable is the intimacy with which every moment is captured. Since childhood Tomer has lived with his video camera a permanent fixture in his hand, with every part of his life and love, shot and recorded. Here, those moments are pieced together creating a truly inspirational portrait of a relationship that transcends prejudice, resentment and fear, kick starting our QueerDoc with the warm spark of hope.
