A Single Man

special preview, Dendy Newtown

Tom Ford, USA, 2009, 100 min
Set in Los Angeles in 1962, A Single Man is the soon-to-be-released directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford, and a special preview presentation in our festival. George Falconer (Colin Firth), is a British college professor struggling to find meaning in his life after the death of his long-time partner, Jim. We follow George through a single day, where a series of encounters ultimately challenge him to decide if there is a meaning to life after Jim. Beautifully filmed and thoughtfully crafted with excellent performances (Firth is tipped for an Oscar, and co star Julianne Moore is as delightful as ever as his compassionate closest friend) this is a surprising and moving highlight of 2010 - see it with queers this Mardi Gras.
