We’re delighted to revisit this classic queer kaleidoscope as part of our Sacred Spaces theme. Paris is Burning documents the Harlem Ballroom scene, a home for the freakishly fabulous in the queer New York of African Americans. Weekly, the competing ‘houses’ gather with their latest fashion creations and then engage in an electrifying ‘vogue-off’. The birthplace of the world wide Vogue-ing phenomenon, made all the more known by Madonna, this is the seed bed from which it all blooms. Voluntary vogueing in the aisles is welcome!
