Dendy Newtown, subtitled

Pascal-Alex Vincent, France/Spain, 2009, 80 min, subtitled
The ethereal entwining of twins has seldom been so instinctively and insightfully drawn as this astoundingly accomplished debut feature. Are they one and the same, two halves of a whole, and can they be divided? Antoine and Quentin (Alexandre and Victor Carril) travel from France to Spain on foot to attend their estranged mother’s funeral. The insular, visceral, almost feral quality of their twinship is developed through a series of chance encounters and near misses, but it is when romance blooms between Quentin and a male farm hand, that their connection complicates, and Antoine’s consequent betrayal tears them apart.
